Do you have a family member who attended or worked at the Fourth Ward School in Virginia City, Nevada? If so, we want to hear from you!
One of our major passions and aspects of our mission here at the Fourth Ward School Museum is telling the stories of our former students who attended the Fourth Ward School when it operated as a schoolhouse from 1877 to 1936. Conversely, we love learning from the descendants of our students about their family’s history and connection to the Fourth Ward School.
We’re inviting you to share what you remember or have learned about your Alumni ancestor in the comments section of this post. Who was your family member? Do you have memories or stories your family tells about them? When did they attend the Fourth Ward School?
We invite you to be sure to visit our Alumni Room exhibit on your next visit to the Fourth Ward School Museum. There you’ll see a large collection of school photos and even family photos of the Fourth Ward School as well as other schools in Virginia City and the greater Comstock region. Perhaps you may even spot your ancestor!
If you’re wondering if your family member(s) ever attended the Fourth Ward School, you can refer to our historic Staff and Graduates list online here. You can also book research time in our Archival Research Center at the Museum to learn more about your ancestors and other aspects of Comstock and Northern Nevada history.
If you’d like to honor your family member and their historic school, you can become a member of the Fourth Ward School Museum and or donate in your ancestor’s name. You can also adopt a window shade in their name and a gold commemorative plaque with their name will be placed on the new window shade.
Thank you for sharing the stories of your family and their connection to the Fourth Ward School. And thank you for allowing us the honor to do the same.
