“The Pride of Virginia [City] is the new school-house…
if it is our pride to-day, the time is not far distant
when it will be our glory as well.”

Teach Nevada History Where It Happened

The Fourth Ward School was the “pride” and “glory” of Virginia City, NV when it was built in 1876 and for generations afterward.

This dedication to education continues today in the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum. We continue to invest in our present and future by preserving and sharing our past. Since the Museum operates within the walls of this magnificent former schoolhouse, we take special pride and care in sharing Nevada history with students today.

Your Students Will Interact Directly with Nevada History

A visit to our historic 1876-era schoolhouse allows students to “see themselves” in history by relating to the children and students who attended the Fourth Ward School from 1877 to 1936. Your students will sit in the original desks, walk through the original classrooms, and have an opportunity to reach out and touch history in a tangible way.

Your group’s visit to the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City, NV will include:

  • Educational Tour led by our Museum’s professional staff and docents
  • A collaborative Scavenger Hunt activity for an interactive, fun, and exploratory experience

Each Educational Tour will be approximately 45 minutes long, including the Scavenger Hunt.

You have the option to add additional educational activities to enhance your visit to the Fourth Ward School Museum.
